Artist's Statement

Like many people, I've always felt constricted by many forms of concensus reality. Although containing clear concrete anchors at the level of existence we humans experience, reality as a whole is far more plastic, elastic, and permeable than our needs for social organization generally require us to believe. There really are no boundaries. Consciousness itself is infinite.  Our cultural notions concerning the nature, structure and function of the world we live in are situationally determined, hence temporary and ultimately dissatisfying.  So we need more "psychological elbow-room".  Where can we find an invitation to the real party?  Human awareness of its own conceptual freedom is best exemplified by those people who work to expand the envelope of the possible and the real. The Arts (particularly Surrealist Art and its extended, multi-generational family) are a prime example.  Conceptual risk-taking and reality-engineering are inherent in these expressive forms. From Lascaux to Jean Dubuffet to Alex Grey, the radiantly fantastic defines new territory by its very nature. My work ventures to contribute to this evolutionary process .These paintings represent truly alternative world views and mythologies. From abstraction to iconography, from sexuality to psychoactivity, from the terrestrial to the celestial, from the profound to the playful, these paintings open new dialogues about the nature of reality, dialogues decidedly peripheral to the obsessions of the modern temper. These paintings are too odd to have ever been, before this, promoted to a mass audience. In no way designed to meet the interests of the mainstream art market, these strange cultural documents evolved organically over time, as various technical and design interests meshed with alternative consciousness and lifestyles. These otherworldly paintings are icons of an emerging voluptuary culture whose roots are ancient and universal . These paintings are intended as signposts or banners for those gravitating towards new modes of being and thought here in the third millennium. Enjoy.
