Biometaphysics and Pleasure
Love-making is the highest form of human activity. It is the source of all religion and all that is best and most beautiful in culture. The simultaneous surrender to, and manipulation of, primal creative energy, and the dissolution of time, space, and self experienced in prolonged and passionate love-making, are the most potent tools available for human liberation, and they are hard-wired into our nervous systems. We can also get there with certain sacred plants, musics, and movement disciplines. That's what this show is about. I want people to experience, through this gathering of painting, sculpture, and poetry, some of the intense living that produced it. I want to share, artistically, some of the ancient, bacchic experience of ecstatic insight: sex and drugs and rock and roll as a genuine, visionary, spiritual path. Villon, Rimbaud, Miller, Kerouac.
A cautionaty note: although Ganja Tantra purports to be a tool for levering oneself into the state of being it proclaims, it lacks a critical component: you can't physically interact with it. Unfortunately, the gallery is not a bedroom, a dancefloor, or an ashram (although it has been used for these purposes). Another important point: in Asian erotics, simple genital orgasm is never the goal; it is instead a conscious and rhythmic punctuation that helps generate and sustain love as a radiant, spiritual force. Love-making is cultivated to levels beyond typical sexuality. Couples then discover that what they are loveing, with the passion of their entire being, is not so much each other, but rather divinity itself: the infinite fountain of life revealed in the embodied flesh.
